
Doug Avery
CO-CHAIR
Doug Avery is President and founder of Avery Energy Enterprises, specializing in energy consulting, utility program design, workforce training, advanced lighting controls design, and energy efficiency demonstration project management. Prior to founding this firm, Doug was the Lighting Group lead at Southern California Edison. He holds a degree in Physiological Psychology and is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers.

John Martin
CO-CHAIR
John Martin has directed public policy efforts for the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) since 2008. Martin works with IALD’s members to increase the visibility and impact of the lighting design profession, and to influence codes, standards, and government actions that might affect lighting design. His background includes service as a staff member in the U.S. House of Representatives, as a lobbyist for education, as an electrical contractor, and as a corporate training director. Dr. Martin holds a BA degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and masters and doctoral degrees from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Harvard University.

Rita Renner
Seasoned in cleantech and energy efficiency, Rita A. Renner has held senior marketing and outreach positions at industry leaders such as Echelon and Wattstopper. As an independent consultant, she has served clients in pre-IPO lighting controls companies, electrical/data construction and professional services firms, and power management solutions providers. She has conducted industry outreach activities, including collaborative programs with R&D organizations and educational programs with industry NGOs.
Rita holds a B.A. summa cum laude from Mount Mary College in liberal arts as well as a J.D. cum laude from Santa Clara University School of Law. She is a member of the State Bar of California (inactive), the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), and holds a LEED Green Associate credential from the U.S. Green Building Council.
