Webinar Description: Existing buildings present a great challenge to reaching our collective climate goals. While new construction codes in California advance toward zero energy, how do we handle the other 99% of buildings? In this webinar, we will discuss the challenges and opportunities to drive down energy use and carbon emissions associated with existing buildings, including policy, retrofit approaches, and messaging strategies for market transformation. On the policy side, building performance standards are emerging as a key pathway to impact the built environment at scale. For individual buildings, we will share the results of a recently completed 4-year demonstration project targeting 20% whole building energy savings with a retrofit package consisting of LEDs with luminaire level lighting controls coupled with wireless automated interior shades and HVAC retro-commissioning. Finally, achieving market transformation takes more than cost-effective solutions – the right messaging and paths to market are required to bring stakeholders on board and invest in building upgrades. We will share NBI’s approach to market transformation and lessons learned along the way.
Key Topics: Policy trends for existing buildings, EPIC research results on innovative retrofit package, Market transformation
